Two brains dancing

Sid Herron
Webmaster / Sound Engineer / Composer / Instrumentalist / Vocalist
Sid Herron has been a musician for as long as he can remember. His dad put a ukulele in his lap when he was too small to hold a guitar, and he graduated to guitar when he was big enough. He grew up singing in church with his mom and dad (which led to some interesting challenges in key changes and harmony inversions when his voice started to change). He also had two older brothers – also guitarists – who taught him to love the folk music of the 50’s and 60’s. Generations of Herron kids have now been raised on Puff the Magic Dragon and Sama Kama Wacky Brown.

In his 20s, Sid spent some time traveling around the Northwest with a couple of gospel groups. When the pianist/lead singer of the second group left unexpectedly, Sid was asked to fill in on piano. He’s continued to polish his keyboard chops since then. Shortly thereafter, he began to experiment with recording at home – first with a dual cassete deck, then with simple multi-track tape recorders. As PCs became more powerful and storage got less expensive, he converted to hard disk recording, and gradually put together a decent home studio. For the curious, he’s now running the free version of Cakewalk by Bandlab, which integrates hard-disk audio recording and MIDI synthesizer support.

The music you’ll find here was recorded in that home studio, in collaboration with his wife and best friend, the beautiful and talented…

Credible Messenger / Author / Lyricist / Photographer / Web Content Creator / Vocalist
Alison has decades of assorted life endeavors / careers under her belt, the foremost of which are being a mom to five amazing children and grandma to eight. She has also enjoyed teaching dance and performing arts for many years, establishing an arts program for youth associated with the juvenile justice system, and spending four transformative years teaching English language arts and social studies in a county juvenile detention facility. Senior activities, concerts and special events organization/promotion, nannying, and youth career navigation also deserve mention.

Serving as a music leader / coordinator and choir director at church and in her community has been a central part of her life since her early teens. This has contributed greatly to her conviction that music is both a gift and a tool from a loving God… with power beyond our reckoning to improve quality of life, teach us profound life lessons, and provide answers and inspiration. Done right, it can intimately connect us to heaven, to ourselves, and to each other.

Her journey of combining her strong personal faith in Jesus Christ with self-directed brain rewiring brought about a remarkable recovery from PTSD and several related medical issues. The knowledge gained along that recovery path, coupled with a burning desire to help others find similar healing, are at the heart of Faith Squared Music. What a blessing to have married a man with the musical and technical skills required to make it all happen!

Some Personal Notes from Alison
Fully acknowledging that better, stronger voices could have recorded the songs that feature my voice, I wish to share a little background information. In the late nineties, my vocal cords became paralyzed. I completely lost my ability to sing and was barely able to talk. The cause? Trauma. Then… the very slow and convoluted recovery contributed to additional trauma. Regaining my singing voice well enough to pull off recording a few songs near and dear to my heart is a great victory… one I hope you will celebrate with me in gratitude and joy. Celine Dion I ain’t, and that’s okay. It’s alright.

Finally… I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and still embrace its teachings today. I’m eternally grateful for how it has shaped my life and my faith, and brought me to an unshakable knowledge of a loving and forgiving Savior and Father in Heaven. If this information gives any listeners pause, I pray that they let the messages in the music speak for themselves. I firmly believe that Christianity will make a lot more progress in this world once we Christians decide to speak and behave as united members of the same team! Helping that process along is one of my missions. Blessings to all!

Because I know there are many members of my own faith who really need the information I’m sharing here, I’ve decided to provide an additional page of Christ-centered brain-rewiring resources especially for those who belong to (or are interested in) the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, I understand that if it is perceived by some outside of the church that my motivations for writing this music and creating this web content have roots in ambitions to proselytize (they don’t), it might prevent them from exploring the Web site and enjoying the music. So, I made the decision to keep the above link off the main menu… but available to anyone if they dig deep enough and decide to go exploring! I’m trusting those who appreciate it will feel motivated to share the link with others who will appreciate it as well.
